Interview with Emiliano Ezcurra

Austral University - 2023

In the framework of the subject Discursive Production, I had the opportunity to interview Emiliano Ezcurra, founder of the NGO Banco de Bosques and former vice president of the National Parks Administration, to discuss the environmental issues in the context of the 2023 presidential elections in Argentina. Along with the text, the article includes infographics, among them an interactive one that delves into the NGO, and a video of questions in a "ping-pong" style.

Emiliano Ezcurra: “Environmentalists always defend a very overlooked cause”

The environmentalist argues that the state has everything at its disposal to change reality, making it essential to achieve political consensus in the creation of protected areas and to avoid dogmatic discourses such as Milei’s denialism.

The environmentalist Emiliano Ezcurra knew from a young age that he had to defend the weaker. “I could never stand still in the face of a situation that I considered unjust,” he admits. Having spent his summers in the countryside, he inherited a sensitivity to nature that he later turned into a profession. At 12 years old, this “framework of a justicer,” in his words, drove him to spend his weekends protecting a hippopotamus at the Palermo Zoo after learning that another had been killed with a can. “My reasoning was very practical: there’s another one, they will do the same to it, we have to go protect it. I was desperate,” he explains.
