Kunming-Montreal global framework
LA NACION - 2024

On the occasion of the Conference of the Parties (COP 16) on biodiversity in Colombia, I wrote a note about the current status of the Kunming-Montreal Global Framework. In particular, about the progress of the 30x30 target and the importance of protected areas. The note includes interviews with Hernán Casañas from Aves Argentinas, Manuel Jaramillo and Daniela Gomel from Fundación Vida Silvestre Argentina, Ana Di Pangracio from Fundación Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (FARN)
Meta 30x30: the advances and challenges of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework
Six years from the scheduled date, countries around the world are far from fulfilling their commitment to conservation goals
More than 45,300 species are under threat of extinction, according to the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). This means that around 28% of species assessed globally are threatened. During these weeks, the 196 participants of the sixteenth Conference of the Parties (COP 16) are meeting in Cali, Colombia, to discuss the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Agreement created at COP 15 in 2022 and the funding needed to achieve its objectives.
