Argentine butterfly

LA NACION - 2025

Based on the research conducted by Florencia Coelho concerning the species, I had the opportunity to collaborate in the production of a note about five school initiatives related to the butterfly. This involved interviewing representatives from the Special Education School No. 504 “Manuel Chaparro”, the Special Education School No. 501 “Dr. René Favaloro” and the Kindergarten No. 904 “Dr. Alejandro E. Shaw”, the Carmen Arriola de Marín School, the Xul Solar School and School No. 64 "Rivera Indarte". Along with the text, the note includes photographs (some of my own), a map designed by the newspaper team, and a video interview edited by me.

Argentinian Flag Butterfly. The original initiatives of five schools to protect it

The Argentinian flag butterfly (Morpho epistrophus), named for its sky blue and white colors that resemble the national emblem, seeks to become the national butterfly. Today, the species is endangered because it depends on specific environments to live, but the trees that host it – the coronillo (Scutia buxifolia), ingá (Inga uraguensis), and bugre (Lonchocarpus nitidus) – face threats. Many people cut them down because they are unaware that they are essential for the butterfly’s survival, while invasive exotic species surround these trees and compete with them until they suffocate. Additionally, animals can harm the younger specimens and prevent their growth.
